Many of us have anecdotal evidence of why we are unhappy with our public schools, but consider these alarming facts:

· New Mexico schools have a 62% graduation rate (based on grades 9-12)

· New Mexico schools receive 47% of our tax dollars

· New Mexico spends $7,200 per student

· 26% of New Mexico adults have less than a 12th grade education

· 44% of New Mexico adults read at 6th level or below

These are a few of the appalling statistics that reveal the failure of our education system. What these facts don’t explicitly reveal is that the people who are on the “good” side of these statistics are being held back by policies and standards that are angled towards the folks that are under-achieving which ultimately leads to a degraded education for ALL of our students. B2BLA provides a choice for those of us who want to break away from the contemporary learning system where self-esteem, low-standards, and high-spending are paramount. Back to the Basics LA adopts the philosophy of outstanding achievement through hard work and the pursuit of excellence. We hear the mantra from our school administrators that our children are the future, and it’s important to educate them, etc. etc. They use all the right platitudes, but when the rubber meets the road, we fail them. Why? That my dear friends is the critical question. Why are our kids not achieving success in the public school system? Well, just as there is not one reason, there isn’t one answer, but I will tell you this, it IS NOT rocket science to figure out how to correct it! As our name suggests, Back To the Basics takes our learning procedures back a few years to a time when American schools were an icon to be looked up to and a source of pride for the world to envy. Our small school will, of course, not solve the bigger problem that our schools face, but it will provide an outstanding alternative!

What we won't do:

We will not take God out of your child’s daily life. We will not set the bar low for your child. We will not teach sex education in our school--this is your job as parents. We will not tolerate behavioral problems or a lack of a full commitment, by all, to the discipline policy of the school.

What we will do:

We will teach the three R’s. We will set high standards. We will challenge your child to think critically. We will return a sense of patriotism and pride in America and will teach a deeper historical perspective of the United States and the World. Our curriculum will have a strong emphasis in Science, Mathematics, and American History. Do not sell your children short, they are amazing kids that can achieve far more then you could ever imagine. With strong guidance and discipline, you will be quite satisfied with the results that their limitless potential can produce!
