Below are links to general thoughts on education by bloggers\philosophers\parents as well as the latest headlines regarding the plight of our public school system. We seem to be going in the wrong direction with our schools as each day passes. We've mentioned this before--we'd love to see the public educational system thrive with resounding success, but the way it is set up is doomed to fail with the unbelievable amount of $$$ flowing into the school system (don't believe it when people say it's under-funded) among other factors. There's a good, sound article on how the amount of money spent on education actually has an INVERSE relationship to the quality of education in our public schools. This information is meant to inform you about what we're dealing with not only across the nation, but right here within our local school system. Obviously we have a biased slant providing this information, considering B2BLA is a private school and would love to have your child attend our institution, but the bigger picture is the absolute, incontrovertible evidence that our public schools are crumbling, and we as tax paying citizens are helplessly watching this debacle happen right before our eyes. At the very least, B2BLA urges you to consider removing your child from the public school system and home school, or even consider other private schools. While we are a positive and uplifting organization, these sites have information that is certainly dismal, and quite alarming.
Go straight to--In the News (News articles at end of page):
The Grandfather Report: A thoughtful summary describing accurately the situation America is faced with today regarding education on a macro level and how we fare on an international level (it's not good) Please read, some of what you read might surprise you! If you read nothing else, please read this report. Why is so much wrong with our schools?: Article by Tracey Levine, a professional writer for various Magazines. The title says it all. What about socialization?: Article by Manfred B. Zysk, concerning the widely perpetrated myth that home school children are social misfits (an opinion, I once held). Although we're not big fans of the author's politics in general, Manfred is spot on with this one. The most thought provoking question he asks is "Take a walk down the hall ways of a local public school, and then decide, what behaviors you want your children to emulate" What about socialization? (part 2): Article by Cathy Cuthbert. More thoughts on the myth of better socialization in public school education and its merits vs. home\private school children. Let My Children Go: A New Case for Abandoning Government Schools: Article by Steven Yates. As the title suggests, this article gets into the social agenda of the public school system as well as the evidence of the increase in violence over the last 10+ years. Separation of School and State: Even further evidence to abandon the government run monopoly that is our public education system. This is a MUST READ for all parents. Why Shouldn't the Government be Involved in Education?: A scathing report on exactly why our schools are failing and what we're (not) doing about it. It gives historical perspectives and weaves in our constitutional and founding principles.
Homeschoolers' Setback in California: More Socialism and nanny state government control of parents and children in the wonderful state of California. It's only a matter of time before this kind of absurdity will come to New Mexico. Los Lunas teacher caught with meth: Local teacher at Valencia Elementary caught in some unscrupulous activity at the school.
New Mexico to require cancer vaccine for 6th-grade
girls:
Simply amazing. This is the answer to the question:
"What the heck is next?" when talking about incredibly intrusive and
unconstitutional laws the government makes. Think long and
hard on this one. You as a parent will have to jump through
hoops to NOT have your daughter get the vaccination if you don't
want it for her. This is not polio, or measles we're talking
here. The only way you get this cervical cancer is through the
act of sex (after increased exposure of course). Can you
explain that to your 12 year old daughter when she asks what the
shot is for? Can you explain it to yourself? N.M. Sisters Get Probation in Bus Attack: Yes, sisters. Not young boys. Young girls. This does wonders for socialization, no? New Mexico gets an F in preparing kids for college: Associated Press Article. U.S. Chamber Of Commerce Report Card for New Mexico: (Hint, it's not good)
